VINIL Universal Records Jean Michel Jarre - Electronica 2: The Heart Of Noise

2016

AllMusic : Jean-Michel Jarre's two-part Electronica series finds the French synthesizer guru in full-on Santana circa Supernatural mode, collaborating with a vast array of guest musicians ranging from veterans to younger artists. The second volume, released seven months after 2015's inaugural The Time Machine, is titled The Heart of Noise in reference to Italian futurist Luigi Russolo's 1913 manifesto The Art of Noises. Jarre has a keen ear for collaborators, ranging from his '80s synth pop peers to 21st century techno artists whose work carries on the legacy of his past innovations. As to be expected from such an extensive laundry list of guests, however, the end result is wildly inconsistent, and taken song by song, it's very much a hit-or-miss affair. A lot of the pairings make total sense on paper, and in many cases they don't necessarily do anything wrong, they just aren't particularly exciting.

VINIL Universal Records Daft Punk - Homework

1997

Pitchfork: "Daft Punk’s debut, the duo’s greatest illusion yet."

BBC:"Homework could have been a superb 40-minute album, but at almost twice that length there are definite longueurs. For every bagatelle like High Fidelity or Phœnix, though, there’s a gleaming techno machine like Alive ready to hover into view and throw you forward into an LED-coated future of Kanye samples, Grammys, Tron soundtracks, movies and pyramids. The rise of the robots started here."

VINIL Universal Records Kraftwerk - Radio-Activity

1975 ( remaster 2009 )

[ Sputnik ] Radio-Activity is somewhat of a forgotten classic when it comes to Kraftwerk fans. Understandably though, the band released another three albums (Autobahn was before this) after it, all of which continually broke the exceptionally high standards and conventions the band had set themselves. In many ways, it is the middle child. Good, but not outstanding, and certainly not bad enough to get any negative attention. It has simply sat on the shelf, being played occasionally for the title track and moderately successful single Radio-Activity, a groundbreaking release, not simply for it's first usage by Kraftwerk of English vocals in any of their songs, but one notable for a ghostly power plant choir, whom New Order took notice of, and liberally sampled in their smash hit Blue Monday.

VINIL Naim Stuart McCallum: City

2015

“Liberally coated in chill-out and even folky atmospheres City is a record that also has a strong vocals input. But there’s also organic acoustic guitar currents flowing in like a hidden river under some concreted-over flyover” - Marlbank

"deserves to be widely heard and appreciated" - All About Jazz

"The stuff of trippy dreams" - London Evening Standard

“Some music is at its best after dark; after all, night is the time for introspection, and this, guitarist Stuart McCallum’s second album for Naim Jazz, is a case in point: we’re truly talking about 3.00am levels of introspection.” - London Jazz

VINIL Universal Records Kraftwerk - Autobahn

[AllMusic] Although Kraftwerk's first three albums were groundbreaking in their own right, Autobahn is where the group's hypnotic electronic pulse genuinely came into its own. The main difference between Autobahn and its predecessors is how it develops an insistent, propulsive pulse that makes the repeated rhythms and riffs of the shimmering electronic keyboards and trance-like guitars all the more hypnotizing. The 22-minute title track, in a severely edited form, became an international hit single and remains the peak of the band's achievements -- it encapsulates the band and why they are important within one track -- but the rest of the album provides soundscapes equally as intriguing. Within Autobahn, the roots of electro-funk, ambient, and synth pop are all evident -- it's a pioneering album, even if its electronic trances might not capture the attention of all listeners.

VINIL Universal Records Kraftwerk - Computer World

[AllMusic] The last great Kraftwerk album, Computer World captured the band right at the moment when its pioneering approach fully broke through in popular music, thanks to the rise of synth pop, hip-hop, and electro. As Arthur Baker sampled "Trans-Europe Express" for "Planet Rock" and disciples like Depeche Mode, OMD, and Gary Numan scored major hits, Computer World demonstrated that the old masters still had some last tricks up their collective sleeves.
