With this purely analog vinyl record, the brass trio, consisting of Leonard Paul (trombone), Thomas Gansch (trumpet) and Albert Wieder (tuba), presents a splendid masterpiece.

The LP was recorded live and without overdubs in the legendary Casino Baumgarten in Vienna, where, among other things, Pro-Ject Records‘ own “7Ray” production was created. The dreamy-virtuoso musical performances of the artists are wonderfully embedded through the authentic analogue recording and production, so that both audiophiles or occasional listeners can expect an unparallele experience! Internationally on tour with Mnozil Brass for many years, this group of musicians have contributed to the fact that the sound of trumpets, trombones and tubes in a large format constellation is experiencing a real renaissance. The idea of ​​trying it out in a trio resulted from the fact that the three gentlemen were responsible for the encores of each Mnozil brass show and that way a lot of material worth publishing was created. The trio reveals a wonderfully varied musical experience that effortlessly leaves stylistic boundaries behind.

Circle was a band on fire with creativity. Chick Corea and Dave Holland had just left Miles Davis’s band, keen to explore all parameters of new music in an improvised context. Anthony Braxton, equally inspired by Stockhausen and Coltrane, brought in new directions from the AACM. Barry Altschul’s resumé included extensive work with Paul Bley. Together they were, for a while, matchless. Corea called the Paris Concert (recorded 1971) the realization of a dream. Melody Maker: “Paris Concert is evidence that here was one of the most excitingly talented bands of recent years, for these 94 minutes of music simply burst with vigorous invention.”

[ AllMusic ] Melody Gardot's debut recording, released in 2006, came two years after she suffered a near fatal automobile accident, the differently able Gardot triumphing in accomplishing what many others, including her, could only dream of. This project has her singing and playing guitar and a little piano, but more so presenting this project of all original material. Gardot has an interesting personal story, but even more intriguing music that straddles the line between lounge jazz, folk, and cowgirl songs. She's part sophisticated chanteuse, college sophomore, and down-home girl next door. Her innocence, sweetness, and light are very alluring, much like the persona of tragic songbirds Eva Cassidy and Nancy LaMott.

AllMusic : "If 1980's As Falls Wichita, So Falls Wichita Falls was defined by Pat Metheny's charisma, its less accessible but certainly rewarding successor, Offramp, finds him leaning more toward the abstract. But as cerebral as Metheny gets on such atmospheric pieces as "Are You Going with Me?" and "Au Lait," his playing remains decidedly lyrical and melodic. Clearly influenced by Jim Hall, the thoughtful Metheny makes excellent use of space, choosing his notes wisely and reminding listeners that, while he has heavy-duty chops, he's not one to beat everybody over the head with them. Even when he picks up the tempo for the difficult and angular title song, he shuns empty musical acrobatics.
