The X-Baby, though the smallest of our speakers, reflects all of the design, construction and performance philosophy of the entire Eben line.
Utilizing the same Raidho planar tweeter and the equally fast mid/bass driver found in all the speakers, the soundstage, definition, dynamics, and emotion generated by the X-Baby sets a new standard for a compact, stand-mounted monitor. Crossover, alignment of the drivers and the polyurethane foam coupling element of the tweeter combine to yield exceptional phase and time coherence together with a grandeur of presentation that belies the compact size of the entry-level Eben.

Designed and manufactured entirely by Raidho, the FTT75 drive unit is used throughout the Eben X-Streme Series. Extremely unusual, the ribbon diaphragm operates as a sealed unit, constrained right around its periphery. This delivers a unique balance of virtues: an extremely low moving mass, exceptional extension and power handling, but most importantly of all, ideal dispersion characteristics when it comes to integration with a conventional dynamic driver. The end result is a performance that extends from 3.5 KHz to beyond 50 KHz, yet does so with totally convincing speed, resolution and dynamic integrity.
Audio Technology Dynamic Drivers.
The Achilles heel of hybrid loudspeakers has always been the speed of response available from the dynamic drivers mated to exotic high-frequency units. All the Eben X-Streme Series ( aside from the entry-level X-1 ) employ the astonishing Audio Technology drive units. These use massive and highly sophisticated motor assemblies, mated to a Raidho designed and developed cone. We believe the result is the fastest dynamic driver available today, whilst the sophisticated cone provides superb phase linearity and a naturally smooth roll-off, ideal for use with simple, first order type cross-overs. The three-way models use a further development of the basic design and utilise a Kapton voice-coil former to further improve mid-range resolution and speed.
Crossover Networks.
Conventional crossover networks are subtractive in nature, robbing the music of life and energy. We can’t eliminate them entirely, but we can indulge in effective damage limitation. The first step is to keep them as simple as possible, using single component, first order techniques to produce a second order design. The purpose built drivers dispense with the need for voicing elements, so that even the crossover for the massive, three-way, seven-driver X-4 has only five components in the signal path and a flat impedance that never drops below 8 Ohms. The second step is to make those components the best sounding ones available. Raidho use air cored inductors and capacitors from Jensen, while all internal wiring is Nordost Monofilament. In addition, the excellent matching of the drivers’ phase and dispersion characteristics help make the crossover points audibly invisible. Total phase shift across the bandwidth is less than +/- 10 degrees, resulting in superb timing and spatial accuracy.
